N20 maximum jubilee, first 21 monitoring days

Tampere DX-listeners new dx-cabin with several beverages was installed in Niihama in autumn 1993. Finally in Christmas Eve night December 23rd 1993 first logging from N-cabin was made by VJR: 1458 Sunrise Radio, London 1458 and then R Tropical, Barra do Carças MG 4855.

To honor the N-cabin´s 20 years of history Tampere DX club announced a special listening period among N-activists: Target is to monitor dx-bands especially from December 1st 2013 to Epiphany, January 6th 2014 and to log at least one station daily to the Online Log: http://log.hard-core-dx.com/

During first 21 days, until winter solstice, target is reached, although in the beginning of the month conditions on MW were rather lousy, and during last week even declined. Typically MW band has offered several peaks on TA-frequencies, but signals have been in trouble with noise level and deep fading. Readable audios haven´t been too many and often hard to find.

To the table below is compiled some solar and MW condition data from these 21 days: Last columns’ remarks are based on the Online Log and on my own subjective observations on the band, mainly in the mornings before local sunrise. Of course especially now in the era of SDR and trawl recordings all loggings are not yet known. On the other hand, because of so lousy conditions, not so many recordings are likely.

My monitoring is made using  N-cabins´ 830 meters beverage directed to Columbia and Venezuela (277°), remote via net. The antenna works well also to Puerto Rico and Newfoundland or Peru, but doubtlessly not so well to La Plata or to inland USA. Conditions ranked by JA are included for comparison, but naturally cx in Southern Norway are often strongly different to those here in Southern Finland, not to mention in Lapland.

Tampere DX-listeners CASA-list now updated

 From the upper right hand side corner of this blog page you´ll now find an updated list of Latin American (CA & SA, including the Caribbean) MW-stations identified and OLL-logged using beverages of Tampere DX Club listening cabin. Niihama is located only some 6 km from the Tampere city centre, but in the middle of the forest. The main listening period in the N-cabin is generally concentrated to the period from October to January, so this update period from January 2013 to early December 2013 contains already some new stations. Of course the current solar phase very near the sunspot maximum and the polarity change of magnetic field affects strongly too, even though this maximum is supposed to be the lowest in 100 years.

113 CA-stations. The most remarkable new station is by JPF logged CMBQ Radio Enciclopedia, La Habana 530, a new TA-frequency as well. This cubano game nicely during January 2013 top NA-conditions. There are now 44 different Cuban stations identified using Niihama DX-cabin beverages, while on the 2nd place is still held by Puerto Rico with 22 stations and the 3rd by Mexico (12). Winter 2011-12 is overwhelmingly number one in amount of loggings by 67 stations, while this MW-period so far by 31 is still already ahead of the previous period.

192 SA-stations. In the updated South American list the most “historical” point is the successful catch of two new MW-countries: Guyana 560 and Paraguay 920. In the country competition Colombia leads Venezuela with basketball numbers 87 – 62. Peru has 13 stations in the list while Ecuador 12. Most embarrassing is that from the huge Brasil there is only 9 stations logged and from Argentina only 6 – and Uruguay is still totally missing from the list: Who will be the first happy fellow catching Uruguay in Niihama (or later from the SDR N-trawl)? – The most powerful SA-period in N-history in clearly 2010-11 by 99 loggnings. The current ongoing period isn´t yet in the midway, so total 53 is not bad, and there is more to come.

CASA-list of Niihama (/N or /Ne in loggnings, e = remote via net) can freely be exploited by every DXers: In addition to N-activists, perhaps this list could somehow be useful also for other beginner or moderate level MW enthusiasts listening in southern Finland in order to get a wide general view to the Latin American MW band, i.e. what kind of stations can be expected when tuning to those most exciting zero ending TA-frequencies.

QSLs from China

China on medium waves is interesting but challenging DX-target. Number of stations is big but for most European DXers language barrier is too high. With the help of Internet and the great sites like Asiawaves and Google Translator it is possible to make small cracks to the language barrier, but QSLing Chinese stations is still a demanding task.

With the help of a friend I managed to get my reception report form translated in Chinese (Mandarin) and in January I sent 12 reception reports to Chinese radio stations. With the letters I enclosed audio CDs of the program I had heard.

So far the reply percentage has been quite low, about 30%. But at least it's not zero. Personally I value these QSLs more than most of those one-liners I use to receive from North American AM stations. Why the reply percentage of Chinese stations is so low? My guess would be it’s partly because of Chinese bureaucracy. As one Chinese v/s put it in his e-mail: "Our broadcast station is part of city's propaganda department which in every city belongs to the Communist Party of China. We do not have a QSL card, that is to say that if we send you a letter, it must be reported to the competent authorities for approval and the result may fail. So just in this email I want tell you that what you hear is our radio and television news broadcast."

So far this year I have received verifications from the following stations:

Anhui Nongcun Guangbo, Hefei 1008. Anhui PBS' Agricultural Channel verified my report with nice formal letter in Chinese and QSL-folder with both English and Chinese verification texts.  Letter was signed by the chief editor's office of Anhui Radio.

Guangdong Zhujiang Jingji Guangbo, Guangzhou 1062. This Radio Guangdong's Pearl River Economic Channel broadcasts mostly in Cantonese, which makes is even more difficult to identify. Fortunately it uses "eFM"-slogan in English which is relatively easy to make out from otherwise Cantonese program . Guangdong PBS is the largest media network in Southern China. Network Media Director Ding Zhiwen sent me a PDF-letter in Chinese with information about Guangdong PBS’ several radio and TV channels.

Tianjin Jingji Guangbo, Tianjin 1071. Tianjin Economic Radio’s Vice Director verified my report with nice bilingual (Chinese/English) e-mail.  He had listened my CD and told that the program I heard was a medical hotline service program called Jiànkang jiayóu zhàn.

Qiqihar Xinwen Guangbo, Qiqihar 1197. I heard Qiqihar PBS’ News Channel on 28th of February 2013 and it took only few hours to get e-mail reply from the station, after I sent Chinese e-mail to the address found on their website. V/s seemed to be familiar with the concept of DX-verification as he wrote nice full data QSL-letter with both in Chinese and English. Qiqihar is located in Heilongjiang province, North-East China.

January 2-3 night: Mixed noisy conditions, Paraguay with clear loud voice

Mostly unclean signals, but new MW-country

During the very first days of year 2013 the cart path to the Niihama DX cabin was covered by wet white layer. Even so thanks to the hard-working use of reverse gear and snow shovel I reached the beverage yard, after a while. So I missed the targeted 22 UTC id´s, but after that conditions was noticed to be remarkable worse than yesterday (and much more worse than next evening). Some NA with some YV-stations. TA stations got through all night long, but signals used to be quite “snotty”, particularly during first hours.

Interesting Latin rhythms was noted on 920 kHz and just on the fading top at 0032 UTC a nice promo was announced for a festival held on January 6th, “…transmite vivo en 920 AM, la radio pública de Paraguay!”. This was the first time I have noted Paraguay on MW and is also FFN (first from Niihama dx cabin). I quickly scanned through other PRG-frequencies: Some prospective signals was noted, but no track or too weak. Only 1480 was a little bit stronger, but later it appeared to be Fajardo PR. Also have to consider that Radio Nacional de Paraguay on 920 kHz has a 100 kW power transmitter.

Otherwise the night was almost lousy although there were all the time plenty of transatlantic 10-spikes on my Perseus dial. But even most dominant frequencies like 1130, 1140 and 1300 appeared noisy and mostly hardly readable. Mixed cx gave me regular ID´s like R Reloj 1020, Notiuno 1280, WOOD MI 1300, 1310News.com, AM radio 1430 and R Vibración 1470. All these observations are based on live listening: Trawl recordings are still totally unexamined. But towards morning hours cx still weakened and noise level increased. Often so generous dawn effect wasn´t noted at all.

248° beverage for Spain and England only?

The nice Paraguayan signal was offered only by 277° (830 m), not by 248° beverage (430 m). Longer wire gives more gain. It´s also remarkable that on the lower MW band the pattern of a beverage beams dozens of degrees aside from the beverage direction itself. And the wire line in the forest naturally isn´t straight, either horizontally or vertically. Real features of an antenna are always case by case, and vary by frequency too. In practice the pattern is significantly different to the theoretical one. For some reason 248° beverage works well with Spanish stations, i.e. stations from directions 220-240°, but nobody has never reported that 248° would beat the old faithful 277° with any Latin American stations. I suppose Radio Nacional from Asunción (250°, 12 000 km) is now the southernmost station in this comparison: Most interesting will be when somebody  first time can compare 248° and 277° beverages with stations from Brazilian east coast, Uruguay or Buenos Aires area (238-245°). And what about UK: According to my minor practice at least some stations from England (mostly 240-255°) were favored by 248° wire?

277° for Latin America and 310° for North America

DX cabins antenna arsenal contains nowadays 4 beverages to the Americas: mentioned 248° and 277°, and also 290° (400 m) and 310° (450 m). All antennas are fed with quality coaxial. All baluns, connectors and groundings are carefully matched and measured by club members’ technical team led by JPF and MDK. But for some unidentified reason the 290° wire has never been number one in my empiric comparisons. Could this have something to do with its´ reversible feature (by switch 110° or 290°)?

Anyway I have always found 277° wire catching best CA and SA signals. And 310° is the one and only with NA. In the interface there is naturally some case by case variation. For instance with Newfoundland (290°) and Cuba (287-295°) stations the best antenna varies: Sometimes 277° gives the strongest and most readable signal, sometimes it´s far too noisy. In general the base noise level of 277° aerial is much higher on the Perseus scale, and very notable also in the head phones. Major source for this is unknown: Perhaps there are some remarkable antenna individual reasons, but maybe even the proximity of the city centre of Tampere affects: extensive urban area just 5 km straight ahead in the pattern beam? Contrarily 310° beam is directed to the lake and on the first 12 km there is only water or sparsely populated shores on the line.

Jenkkiasemia, coast to coast

TreDXK:n väki on osoittanut aktiivisuuttaan, tällä kertaa kiinnostavien jenkkikelien vallitessa lokakuun lopun ja marraskuun alun päivinä. Miellyttävästi uusia Niihamassa kuultuja asemia on saatu luureihin, mikä auringon aktiivisuuden kasvaessa on erityisen ilahduttavaa. Lokakuun 30. ja 31. päivä JKZ, MDK ja JVH onnistuivat etäyhteydellä napsimaan houkuttelevan tukun jenkkejä. Illalla 30.10. kuuluivat 1270 CJCB Sydnay NS ja 1300 WJDA Quincy, ja aamulla meno vain parani tuoden ääneen uutena asemana 1470 KMNQ Brooklyn Parkin Minnesotasta, sekä muita ei ihan joka aamu kuuluvia asemia, ja keli ylsi aamulla ihan länsirannikolle asti tuoden esim. 1070 KNX:n Los Angelesista ja 1090 KPTX:n Seattlesta. Etänä kuunneltuna kokonaisuudessaan oikein mukava ja perinteistäkin (vai uusperinteistä?) dx-osaamista ja -vainua osoittava saalis!

Toki tuollaiset ilouutiset innoittivat tuoreeltaan muitakin kerholaisia, ja allekirjoittanut (MCK) päätti sännätä paikalle koko seuraavaksi yöksi tallentelemaan kelien antia Perseuksella koko AM-bandin leveydeltä. Keli-indikaattorit tosin osoittivat jo häiriön merkkejä, ja jo 31. päivän illalla näkymät eivät olleet enää otollisimmat, joskin häiriökelit saattaisivat tuoda esiin yllätyksiäkin.

Tulihan jenkkejä kuuluviin, ehkä ei ihan niin aikaisin kuin edellisenä iltana ja aluksi varsin kohisevin signaalein. Tohina bandilla alkoi toden teolla 23UTC tienoilla, pääsuuntana 310-asteisen antennin MI/MN/IA/WI -suunnan asemat, uutena 1590 WGBW Denmark WI. Varsinainen yllätys oli 01UTC hetkellisesti kuuluviin noussut 970 KFBX Fairbanks AK - alaskalaisia ei tuohon aikaan yöstä juurikaan ole kuultu, mutta mitä ilmeisimmin auringonlasku lähetyspaikkakunnalla ehkä jonkun häiriön avustuksella kannatteli signaalin suosiollisesti pohjoisnavan yli. Myöhemmin kelit siirtyivät lännemmäksi tuoden esiin albertalaisia asemia. Aamua kohti kohina voimistui ja keli tuntui yleisesti heikkenevät, joskin tallenteet ovat paljolti vielä käymättä läpi.

Seuranneina päivinä etätarkkailu on jatkunut ja jenkkien napsinta on jatkunut ennen 7.-8. päivän tienoilla ennakoitua suurempaa häiriötä.

Alkusyksystä Aasiaa

Alkusyksyn hedelmällisin kuuntelukohde Niihaman kämpällä on ollut Kauko-Itä. Kunnon länsiavaukset ovat loistaneet poissaolollaan ja peruskeleillä on Amerikoista vaikea enää kuulla mitään uutta.  Syyskuun suosikkeja olivat Japanin asemat, joita on kuultiin useita uusia. Siinä sivussa on päästy tutustumaan myös haasteelliseen kiinalaiskuuntelun. Etäyhteys Niihaman Perseukseen on ollut käytössä ahkerasti.

Kuuntelukämpän syyskausi starttasi 25. elokuuta talkoilla kolmikon JPF, MCK ja MDK voimin. MDK ja JPF olivat jo aamuyöllä kuulolla testailemassa länsilankaa ja uutta Studio1 SDR-softaa. Bandillä peruslattareita, parhaina mm. 1140 R Panamericana ja 1190 UCSG Radio. Baluneita ja etäyhteyttä ei vielä elokuun puolella kuitenkaan uskallettu kytkeä pysyvästi ukkosten pelossa.

Sunnuntaina 16.9 JPF, JHT ja MDK antennitalkoissa. Antennien balunit, kaapelit ja päätemaadoitukset kiinni ja mittaamalla vielä testattiin koko arsenaali toimivaksi. Myös etä-Perseus käyttöön keväältä tutulla kombinaatiolla eli iltasella käytössä 60 asteinen Aasia-lanka ja yöllä 277 asteinen länsilanka. Näin keskiaaltokausi Niihamassa saattoi todenteolla alkaa. Aamuyöstä MDK:llä aikamoista sekakeliä eli asemaa Argentiinasta (AM 1630 R Diagonal) jenkkeihin (mm. 1600 WUNR). Yön paras ehkä kuitenkin 750 YVKS R Caracas, Caracas. "RCR 750 AM".

JKZ pääsi myös testaamaan etäyhteyttä jo sunnuntaina 16.9 mutta ilta meni vielä harjoittelun merkeissä. Sen sijaan maanantaina 17.9 hieno Aasia-avaus yllätti hämmästyneen etäkuuntelijan pahanpäiväisesti. Ilta alkoi mukavalla iranilaisella 1125 IRIB Radio Qazvinilla ja jatkui japanilaisten merkeissä. Tuurilla luureihin sattui 1008 JONR ABC Radio Osakasta ja tuuletuksia aiheutti jo 1260 JOIR:n TBC Radio –idi tsunamin pahoin runtelemasta Sendain kaupungista. Molemmat japanilaiset Niihamassa uusia, mutta seuraavan puolentoista viikon aikana niitä kuultiin useampana iltana.

Torstaina 20.9 MCK oli kuulolla kämpillä. Japanilaisjahdin lisäksi saaliiksi jäi iranilaisia ja hieno korealainen 1287 HLAF MBC Gangneung mielenkiintoiselta Aasia-taajuudelta. Lauantaina 22.9 MDK kuunteli japsien (mm. 1008 JONR) lisäksi lyhytaaltoaussin 4835 VL8A Alice Springsin.

Sunnuntai 23.9 toi etänä JKZ:lle hitaasti Kiinasta käynnistyneen Aasia-kelin, joka myöhemmin illalla siirtyi Japanin suuntaan ja huipentui vasta juuri ennen 20UTC kun taajuuden 1197 pienitehoinen JOFO RKB Radio Kitakiyushu kepitti iranilaisen isolla idillä.

Maanantai 24.9 oli edellisviikon tapaan hieno japanilaispäivä. Ilta aloiteltiin 1476 Radio Thailandin lopetusseremonioilla 1603UTC. Pieni häiriö toi uutta puhtia keleihin kun JKZ oli etänä japanilaisjahdissa. Uusia japanilaisia jäi saaliiksi 1332 JOSF Tokai Radio Nagoyasta ja pahalla taajuudella mainosten päätteeksi idille puristanut 1314 JOUF Radio Osaka. Myös uusia NHK-taajuuksia oli kuuluvissa ja monet aiemmin kuuluneet japanilaiset tulivat mahtavilla signaaleilla.

Keskiviikkona 26.9 JPF oli illalla kämpillä majakkajahdissa. Ulkona Jarno raivasi langat pois ison kuusen ympäristöstä, jonka seurakunta kävi kaatamassa seuraavana päivänä. Jäljelle jäi komea kanto ja avarampi näkymä kuuntelumökille. Jarno purkitti myös laajakaistatallennuksella muutaman tasatunnin ja näitä tallenteita purettiin porukalla (JKZ, JPF, MDK). Tämän illan lokit lokasimme nimimerkillä TreDXK/N. Laajakaistatallenteilta oli nyt japanilaisten lisäksi helpommin bongailtavissa myös kiinalaisia ja muita Aasian asemia, jotka etäkuuntelussa yhtä taajuutta tallentaessa jäävät väkisin vähemmälle.

Japanilaisia löytyi tarkasti haravoimalla 26.9 tallenteilta vielä pari uutta. 954 JOKR TBS Radio Tokiosta jaksoi idille intialaisen puristuksessa. Aikamoinen yllätys oli kuulla japania myös hankalalla taajuudella 1494. Asema oli mitä todennäköisimmin 1494 JOYR RSK Okayama, vaikka selkeä id jäi saamatta.  Vertailu 1287 HBC Radioon osoitti että ohjelma ei ollut samaa.

Koreasta uutena löytyi taajuudelta 1062 HLKQ KBS1 Cheongju ja pahalta taajuudelta 1188 myös HLKX FEBC:n ohjelmalla. Kiinalaisia oli bandillä runsaasti. Osa tallenteista taajuuksilta 1251 ja 1260 vaatii vielä lisäselvitystä. Selkeät idit löytyivät ainakin 1125 Hebein talousradiolta "Hebei Jingji Guangbo" ja 1512 Jinanin tarinakanavalta "Jinan Gushu Guangbo".

Syyskuun viimeinen viikonloppu 29-30.9 tarjosi myös lännensuunnasta perusjenkkikeliä. MDK:n ja JKZ:n luureissa kuului monia tuttuja itärannikon jenkkejä ja peruslattareita. Jenkeistä ainut hieman harvinaisempi oli heikolle tasan idille puristanut Miamin ”Sports Animal” 940 WINZ.

Syys-lokakuun vaihteeseen siirryttiin CME:n merkeissä. 3-4.10 saatiin kuitenkin jo Iranilaiskelejä ja perjantaina 5.10 JPF tallenteli mukavat Kiina-Korea-kelit, joita porukalla purettiin. Saaliina mm. harvinainen Qingdao RGD 819 ja Luhtiksessa uusi korealainen HLKB KBS1 Busan 891 paikallis-idillä. Sunnuntaina 7.10 saatiin vielä mielenkiintoinen alkuilta kun jo 15UTC taajuudella 1116 feidasi useampi Kauko-Idän asema eli ilmeisesti kaksi japanilaista ja kiinalainen, joista vaivoin erottui JODR Niigata Hoso.

Voimakkaat häiriöt auringossa pilasivat kelit pitkäksi aikaa lokakuun puolivälissä ja muistuttivat pilkkumaksimin ajan olevan käsillä. Toipumisen merkkejä kelit osoittivat oikeastaan vasta perjantai-iltapäivällä 19.10. JKZ:n huomion herätti silloin ”outokiinalainen” taajuudella 1314, joka selvittelyjen jälkeen paljastui taiwanilaiseksi Tien Sheng BS:ksi. Samana iltana tekivät syksyn avauksensa myös Filippiinien asemat. Nyt taajuudella 1314 ”Delta Broadcasting System DWXI” Manilasta antoi ns. ison idin JPF:n tallenteella klo 15UTC. Samaan aikaan myös joitakin kiinalaisia kuten 1008 Anhuin maatalousradio ”nongcun guangbo” ja 1530 Zhejiangin kaupunkiradio Voice of the City eli ”chengshì zhi sheng”.

Viikonlopun 20-21.10 kelit olivat kovin vaihtelevat lisääntyneen elektronimäärän takia. Filippiinejä kuitenkin pihisi molempina iltapäivinä. Maanantai 22.10 käynnistyi kelien osalta hitaasti mutta kehitti illaksi kohtuullisen Kiina-kelin. JKZ:n luureissa uutena ainakin 1251 Shandong RGD ja kiinalaisjahdin sivutuotteena myös iranilainen IRIB Kordestan paikallisidillä split-taajuudella 1476,25 kHz.

TreDXK:n vuosikokous 19.2.2012, Niihaman kuulumisia ja muutama QSL

TreDXK:n vuosikokous pidetään helmikuun 19:ntenä 2012, paikkana edellisen kokouksen tapaan Tampereen Vanhan kirjastotalon Mäkelän kabinetti, klo 14.00-16.00. Kokouksessa käsitellään vuoden 2011 toimintakertomus ja tuloslaskelma, vuoden 2012 toimintasuunnitelma sekä muita kerhon käytännön toimintaan liittyviä asioita.

Niihaman kuuntelukämpällä pahin pakkaskausi on mennyt osin etäkuuntelun merkeissä. Kämpälle ovat uskaltautuneet lähinnä MDK ja JPF sekä etätallentajana VJR, jonka lokauksia yhä odotellaan. Epävakaiden kelien pääsuunta on menneen kuukauden aikana on ollut Karibia ja Keski-Amerikka.

Parasta antia ja uusia asemia Niihamassa olivat JPF:n 16.1 aamuna tallentamat panamalainen 890 Ritmo Stereo, Chitré ja kuubalainen 1210 CMGL Radio Sancti Spíritus. Panamalaisen paljasti FM-taajuus ja slogan: "Frecuencia 97.5 Más Tropical". Kuubalainen taas antoi oman Sancti Spíritus -idin 06UTC, mutta jo tunnin päästä taajuudella raikasi Radio Rebelden ohjelma. Kuubalaisia on pitkin talvea kuulunut Niihamassa tavallistakin runsaammin ja uudet asemat sieltä alkavat olla jo vaikeita kuultavia. Tästä huolimatta MDK onnistui heti seuraavana viikonloppuna 21.1 kuulemaan vielä yhden uuden kuubalaisen hankalalta taajuudelta 1340. CMFL Radio Ciudad del Mar lähettää tuossa Palmirasta.

CA-asemien kylkiäisinä MDK saalisti 21.1 vielä pari mukavaa floridalaista, joista 1600 WKWF Key West FL kuului vasta ensi kertaa Niihamassa. Hienosti tuli myös 1260 WSUA Miami, jonka ääninäytteen voi kuunnella blogin oikean reunan Niihama DX-fileistä. Vielä toinenkin uusi Niihama-jenkki tammikuulta löytyi hiukan yllättävästä suunnasta kun JPF:n 18.1 aamun tallenteella 570 CFCB Corner Brook NL idaili mukavasti 06UTC tienoilla.

Helmikuun lähestyessä puoliväliä keli on jo muutamana aamuna kääntynyt lupaavasti Andien suuntaan. Parhaina indikaattoreina sieltä yläbandin perulaiset 1570 Bethel, 1540 Turbo Mix ja 1500 Santa Rosa.

Antenniremppaa, uusi jenkki, 22.10 rääppiäisiä ja jokunen QSL

Voimakaksikko MDK ja JPF kävi Loppiaisena 6.1. testaamassa kelit ja päivännäöllä korjaamassa Tapaninmyrskyssä katkenneen itälangan. Korjaus osoittautui oletettua hankalammaksi sillä lanka oli poikki kahdesta kohtaa ja uuden pään veto pihan ja sähkölinjojen yli oli työlästä. Loppiaisaamun jenkkikeli veti syystalven linjasta poiketen enemmän länteen ja 1520 KKXA Snohomish WA tuli nyt Niihamassa hienosti kun WWKB ei ollut häiritsemässä. Muita aamun nappauksia olivat mm. 1600 KGYM Cedar Rapids IA ja 1310 WCCW Traverse City MI. Tarkempaa lokia OLLissa.


Joulukuun uutuusjenkki Niihamassa oli kahtenakin aamuna (18.12 MDK ja 31.12 JPF) kuulunut 1280 WPKZ Fitchburg MA. Tämä TreDXKin PJ:n syntymäkaupungin asema teki ensiesiintymisensä Suomessa MJ:n luureissa 14.12. ja on sen jälkeen kuulunut muutaman kerran. Olisikohan kyseessä päivätehon unohtuminen käyttöön myös yöaikaan?

22. October: Interesting morning with CA highlights

It took longer than expected to listen through the recordings I made on my first dx-pedition to Niihama this fall on 21-22.10. I think I was lucky with the conditions, since the large proton event spoiled the promising cx next day. Especially the morning between 0500-0530UTC was interesting giving stations from Florida, Caribbean and even Central America.

Night started with the mix of Latin America and east coast US stations. Later at night average conditions to COL-VEN area and some Caribbean. Best catch was probably 1130 HJAC Emisora Rio Mar. Later on some Caribbean e.g. nice id from 1440 HIAK Radio Impactante.

As the sunrise was closing it was getting more interesting. Lots of Cuba and Florida at 05 UTC and it was hard to determine whether to use 310 or 277 degrees antenna. The best conditions at the moment of local sunrise about 0520UTC when the Mexican 860 XECTL Radio Chetumal came loud and clear for about 5 minutes.

After the sunrise still some stations but now the eastern part of USA was dominating and 310 degrees beverage was working much better than 277 degrees. Still at 06UTC and 0630UTC lots of the usual stuff from east coast to the great lakes.

To 20.10. UCSG Radio, Guayaquil 1190 ym. lattareita ja jenkkejä

MCK/N 0430-0630 UTC kuulostelemassa kelitilannetta. Ihan hyvinhän 277° ja 310° beveraget vetivät, ja yleensä eri asemat kuuluivat antennia vaihtaessa. Vähän päänvaivaa teettikin päättää, kumpaan keskittyisi. 0500 UTC irtosi läjä brittejä, mm. R Hafren, Newtown 756 sekä mm. Bermuda 1160.

Uutena Niihamassa kuultuna asemana tallentui livenä puertoricolainen 630 WUNO San Juan PR, tuota taajuutta ehkä kannattaakin kyttäillä sikäli kun euroasemat antavat myöten. Puerto Rico oli muutenkin aluksi äänessä sekä perusjenkit. Auringonnousun jälkeen kelit ehtivät kääntyä länteen päin ja ylsivät länsirannikolle, mm. 1300 KKOL Seattle WA kuului.

Vertailun vuoksi AIH10-peditionin (MTM&JMS) kuulumisia noin 900 km pohjoisempaa: Sunrise conditions favored Venezuela and Colombia at 0500-0700 UTC, a first on this DXpedition. At the same time, U.S. stations were quite weak. Lisää täällä:

Pe 21.10 Kolumbiaa, Bermuda ja Isla de Viequez

JVH/N kuulolla 2055-0600 UTC. Illan spanskibreikit heikkoja, osa lähetti vain ketjubuffeja ja breikki alkoi vasta 2103.30. 22 UTC englantia 10-taajuuksilla, parhaiten 590, 800, 820 ja 1140 sekä lattareista 1290. Yli 00 UTC enemmän asemia NA-langalla kuin SA-langalla. 01 – 0530 UTC lattarilanka koko ajan kiinni ja asemaa tuli vaihtelevalla vahvuudella ja painotuksella tutulta HJ-YV-PR-NF –akselilta, paino ensin mainitulla. Muutamia mukavia uusia kolumbiaanoja sekä 1020:n kolmas venezolano Alegria,mutta erityisesti säväyttivät uudet saaret Bermuda 1450 ja Viequez 1370. Mukava erikoisuus on Ecuadorin meri-instituutin aikamerkkiasema 1510:llä.

Tykkiasemat tulivat jopa lujaa, esim. Coro 780 sekä ”vakivenezolanot”, mutta paljolti taajuuksilla oli mielenkiintoinen feidaus, jossa asemat vuorottelivat. Signaalit vain tuppasivat olemaan sen verran heikkoja, että luettavuus ei meinannut riittää. Saapa nähdä mitä nuotan perkuussa vielä tulee vastaan.

AIH10: Lousy conditions can get even lousier, as we discovered on Friday morning. After a poor night there was bound to be at least the sunrise effect bringing in trans-Atlantic stations, or so we thought. There were a few Latinos and North Americans, but that was it. The morning was the worst of the week.



La 22.10. viikon huipennus: Troolissa odottaa kaloja Floridan vesiltä ym.

JKZ/N: Tarkempaa analyysiä yön ja aamun kuunteluista tulossa myöhemmin, sillä tallenteista on toistaiseksi kuunneltu vain Icomin live-MD, jonka helmenä dommari 1440 HIAK Radio Impactante, ja 05UTC tasatunnin Perseus-tallenne. Tuo yksi tasatunti tosin taitaa olla yllättävin, jonka olen Luhtiksessa tallentanut. Parempia sinkkuja ja suurempi asemamääriä on kyllä joskus ollut mutta ei tällaista asemavalikoimaa. Eihän siinä mitään, jos bandillä pihisee puolenkymmentä floridalaista (ja kauheasti kuubalaisia), mutta kun 1470 asema alkaa tavata "Ekis-e"-alkuista kutsua, niin meinasi jäädä pala kurkkuun (oli XERCN Tijuana Baja Californiasta, jolta suunnalta en kyllä muuta huomannut). Seassa myös mm. 700 R Sucre Guayaquil. Kaiken lisäksi vielä graveyarderitkin auki (1230 WSBB, 1400 WOND, 1490 WMBM. Kaikki heikosti mutta tunnistettavasti). Kaikki samalla 310-langalla.

AIH10: The morning began with fabulous conditions to Colombia and the Caribbean area, starting around 0500 UTC and ongoing, although weakening (at 0715 UTC). This is definitely one of the best openings to the area that I have ever been lucky to monitor.

Su 23.10. lauantai-iltapäivän protonipurkaus hyydytti kelit

MDK/N: Aamulla VEN/COL/CUB syksyn vakioasemat sekä NLn VOCM-releet lisättynä WBBR ja pari CBCtä, joita ei auringon nousun aikaan enää kuulunut. 277° paras, muttei 310° paljoa heikompi. 248° ei TA-suunnalta mitään, mutta tuo EUta hyvin Britti/Iberia/Ranska -suunnasta. Asemien määrä ei varmaankaan yllä viime vuoden tasolle, näkyvissä jo heti MW-spekrissä. Vaikutti myös harvemmalta kuin la-aamu 15.10.2011. Tallentelin kahdella RX:llä samalle PC:lle – 277° ja 310° - joten tavaraa tälle aamulle kertyi muutamassa tasa- ja puolituntisessa 122 Gt. Tuon paketin purkaminen vie sitten omanaikansa.

AIH10: Overnight was quite boring with stations only from the Southern part of South America. Even at daybreak, not a single trans-Atlantic signal from above the Equator was heard. Again, what a difference a day makes.
